"Gumli Gumli" Bargara

The owners of a prime site at Bargara with the beach to the north-east and a wetland reserve to the west approached Tomas early in 2012 to design a new home that would make the most of this premium location.  Set over three levels, the plan is anchored by a central staircase and a series of double-height  spaces.   See more

Tomas has been engaged to design and document a new house on a riverfront block in North Bundaberg.  The clients approached Tomas as they were keen to see unique ideas for the design of their new home, while ensuring that it was still practical in layout and utilising standard construction methods. The owners of a 1960’s modernist house in Norville approached me to provide designs for additions and alterations to the rear of the property. Over the years a number of additions of varying quality had been tacked on to the house – my approach in the early concept stages has been to strip the house back to its minimalist lines and provide the desired outdoor areas in a manner that blends into the original style. Tomas has been commissioned to design a new house close to the waterfront in Bargara. As the property backs onto parkland with distant views of tidal estuaries, the brief was to maximise the outlook while maintaining privacy. The design is based around a series of pavilions arranged to form private courtyards – some serving as outdoor living areas and others as service zones.  See more

Weddell Tropical Housing Competition

Tomas participated in the recent design competition run by the Northern Territory Lands Group to develop prototypical housing types for a major new satellite city south of Darwin.  The competition called for 5 housing types to be explored, ranging from detached homes to terrace houses and apartments.   See more

The owners of a heritage home in Bellbird Park approached Tomas O’Malley to design a new home on land subdivided from their acreage block. While the new residence is to be built as a speculative venture, it is important to the client that it is in keeping with the character of their property and designed to avoid any impact upon their views. UQ Football Club Redevelopment
UQ Football Club Redevelopment

Following promotion to Brisbane Premier League, the University of Queensland Football Club are required to upgrade their facilities in order to continue competing in the top tier league beyond 2012. The club approached Tomas O’Malley to provide conceptual designs that will assist the club in raising funds to undertake this major redevelopment. See more

Located in a new suburban area of West Port Macquarie, Lake Innes Village comprises a 3500sqm Coles supermarket, Liquorland bottle shop, and 15 specialty stores. The planning of the centre is quite unique as it is set well back from the main road, with the entrance forecourt and cafe plaza orientated towards a future medium density residential street as opposed to the carpark which is set to the side of the building. A conversion of a former bond store in Teneriffe into commercial office space for Allen Jack+Cottier Architects, this project was designed, documented and completed on a compressed programme of 6 weeks.  A simple monochrome palette for the new works complements the existing industrial aesthetic, with the original fire sprinkler system forming a point of interest with it’s bright red pipework.   See more

Campus Living Village [Kelvin Grove] was designed to be more than a residential dormitory. It is a vibrant neighbourhood where people not only live, study and rest but also have places to meet, eat, recreate and relax. The housing meshes into the Kelvin Grove Urban Village which boasts multiple residential and commercial developments retail, entertainment and other recreation facilities. See more

Part of an extensive golf resort development on the Malaysian island of Langkawi, this project consisted of a series of semi-detached 3 and 4 bedroom luxury villas, and a large detached dwelling on one of the most prominent sites in the resort. See more

Between 2007 & 2010 at Allen Jack+Cottier, Tomas completed the design, documentation and approvals for over 40 Lorna Jane store fitouts around Australia.  These ranged from basic DFO style stores to ‘flagship’ stores in Westfield Chadstone and Lend Lease’s Midcity centre in Pitt Street Sydney.   See more
