This competition entry for the new National Workers’ Memorial in Canberra, while not selected, is indicative of TO|A’s ability to work at a variety of scales and in abstract urban forms. The memorial design was based around a created terrain of terraces and gardens, defined by a series of walls formed from materials representative of the industries in which the deceased that are commemorated were engaged. The flowing surfaces converge to direct the visitors view across the lake to a focus at Capital Hill. The space created within the landscape allows for both private paying of respects and larger, formal ceremonies.
